In this Google study, participants expected to return to the home page when they clicked on the site logo and became frustrated when it didn't work. Sure, they could also tap to open the menu, and then tap on "Home", but why not make it easier for users? Why use two taps instead of one? The simple act of linking your logo to the home page can save frustration, taps and also free up one space in your menu.
